Since entering practice with his uncle in 1971, Dr. Wayne Wood has developed a national reputation as an innovator in practice management and contact lenses, specializing in hard to fit patients including keratoconus and astigmatism. He has lectured extensively at seminars throughout the U.S. and in 24 foreign countries. For over 15 years, he was Co-Chairman for Vision Expo, the largest conference for eyecare professionals in this country. In addition, he has served as a clinical investigator and consultant for numerous contact lens manufacturers.
A graduate of Emory University and the University of Houston, Dr. Wood has published numerous articles in national optometry publications and has served on the editorial boards of six different professional journals. He is a charter member of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association and is one of the founders of the National Association of Contact Lens Specialists. He is also widely known as the founder of Riverside Avondale Preservation, one of the South's foremost neighborhood organizations. Dr. Wood is the author of the best-selling book, Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage. His latest books have also won rave reviews: The Jacksonville Family Album, The Great Fire of 1901, and The Architecture of Henry John Klutho. He is the originator of the highly popular Riverside Arts Market and was recently named by Jacksonville Magazine as one of the “50 Most Influential People in Jacksonville.”
One of the most respected optometrists in Jacksonville is Dr. Jim Lanier. A graduate of Mercer University and Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Lanier is one of only 200 optometrists worldwide to be selected by the American Academy of Optometry to be awarded Diplomate status in their Cornea and Contact Lens Section signifying clinical excellence in contact lens practice and related corneal diseases.
Dr. Lanier has lectured literally around the world on contact lenses and innovative patient care ideas and has served as an FDA clinical investigator for many companies studying a host of new eye related products. He is a past President of the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville, the Youth Crisis Center and the Northeast Florida Optometric Association. Dr. Lanier has also served as a professional consultant for the Florida Department of Health, served as part of the Adjunct Faculty of the Southern College of Optometry and has been an instructor at the Vision Care Institute. He and his wife Susie have two children and are active members of the Ortega United Methodist Church.
Dr. Todd Bowman joined our practice in 1988 and is now well established in the optometric community. His technical expertise has contributed much to bringing the latest state-of-the-art procedures into the practice.
A Florida native, Dr. Bowman was born in Sarasota and raised here in Jacksonville. After graduating from Englewood High School in 1979, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., and his Doctorate of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. Bowman has a strong background in contact lenses, as well as ocular diagnosis and treatment. He has distinguished himself as an author in national Optometric journals and as a clinical research specialist for several contact lens companies. He is a member of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association and the Northeast Florida Optometric Society. Dr. Bowman is also a founding member of the Society of Eyecare Specialists, a leading consulting group for contact lens manufacturers.
Dr. Bowman is married to his wife, Pam, who is also our Business Manager. They have two children, Tyler and Shelby. They are Beaches residents and Dr. Bowman practices primarily at our Ponte Vedra location.
Dr. Rogers Wagner joined our staff in 1993 having previously served as the Staff Optometrist at the Baptist Eye Institute where she gained a broad experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of ocular diseases.
The daughter of an Air Force dentist, Dr. Rogers Wagner was raised all over the United States and several foreign countries. She pursued her undergraduate education at Auburn University before going on to receive her Doctorate of Optometry degree with Honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Rogers Wagner has been actively involved in local and statewide optometry organizations, having served as President of the Northeast Florida Optometric Society and chairing several committees for the Florida Optometric Association. She has worked as a clinical investigator for several contact lens companies.
Dr. Rogers Wagner likes to stay active in the community and was instrumental in starting the optometry clinic at the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless in 1995. She received the Golden Rule Award and the Duval County Volunteer Optometrist of the Year Award for her volunteer work, as well as the Alumnus of the Year Award from the UAB School of Optometry. Dr. Rogers Wagner is an officer in the Jacksonville Area Auburn Club and loves her Tigers! She is married to David Wagner and they have a son, Brady.
